Registration


The General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union is a 10-day duration event hold every three years. This event is a unique opportunity for astronomers working in all fields of astronomy to come together. Besides the General Assembly per se with its administrative meetings, the scientific programme usually comprises 2 series of 3 Symposia of 3.5 days duration each, scheduled during the first and second weeks, respectively. During the 10-day period, 16 Joint Discussions are held, with up to 5 running in parallel. Nine Special Sessions on specialized and timely topics are also organized.

The registration for participating of the XXVII General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union, to happen August 03-14, 2009, in Rio de janeiro, Brazil, will be opened November 1st, 2008, together with the registration procedures, travel grant applications and abstract submission for the different meetings and events happening simultaneously with the XXVII General Assembly. People interested in participating can make a pre-registration, in order to be included in the mailing list for receiving news and announcements, when available.

The General Assembly is intended for IAU members, but non-members are allowed to participate, after specific invitation of the International Astronomical Union. Instructions on how to obtain such an invitation will be given in this site soon.
