CALL FOR PAPERS


We cordially invite you to submit a contributed paper to the IAU Symposium 229: Asteroids, Comets, Meteors. The IAUS229-ACM2005 will focus on all aspects of studies on asteroids, comets, and meteors, including observations, theories of origin and evolution, discoveries, astrometry, dynamics, internal structure, mineralogical composition, space missions, laboratory studies, classifications, and databases.

The conference will be organized in 15 plenary oral sessions, two dedicated poster sessions and two round table discussions. Each plenary oral session will have one or more invited talk and some contributed papers. Presently, the confirmed invited talks are:

THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS MAY 15th.

NOTE: Authors submitting contributions on observation and/or analysis of the Deep Impact event must send a preliminary abstract by the above deadline. However, it will be admitted the submission of a revised abstract after the Deep Impact event has occurred. The Contact Author of this type of contribution will be informed by mid June about the deadline for submission of the revised abstract.


REGISTRATION

Registration to IAUS229–ACM2005 is now open. In order to register you have to use the Registration Form that can be downloaded from the homepage of the meeting at http://www.on.br/acm2005/.


The registration fees are as follow:

Early registration (until May 16th, 00:00 UT)US$ 200,00
Late registration (until July 11th, 00:00 UT)US$ 250,00
On-site registrationUS$ 280,00
Accompanying personUS$ 100,00


The above registration fee for participants includes the abstract book and other material, along with the proceeding volume to be published by Cambridge University Press by February, 2006, and attendance to any official events organized by the LOC. The registration fee for accompanying persons includes attendance to all official events organized by the LOC.

VENUE

The IAUS229-ACM2005 will take place at the Convention Center of the Hotel Atlantico Buzios, in the small town of Armacao dos Buzios (or simply, Buzios) in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Buzios is known as a sophisticated beach resort with more than 20 magnificent beaches, an exuberant landscape and exotic vegetation.

The LOC has negotiated special rates for the IAUS 229 – ACM 2005 participants at the Atlantico Buzios Hotel as below:

Single/StandardR$ 270,00 per night
Double/StandardR$ 340, 00 (R$ 170,00 per person) per night
Triple/StandardR$ 450,00 (R$ 150,00 per person) per night


All the above rates include breakfast and lunch buffet (drinks not included). A tax of 5% will be added to the room rate and to all services. Just for reference purposes note that, right now one real (R$) is equivalent to US$ 0,37, but it might vary along the year.

VISA ISSUES

Brazil has agreement for visa exception with several countries. PLEASE CHECK THE LIST in the IAUS229-ACM2005 homepage at http://www.on.br/acm2005/. Citizens from the countries listed there do not need a visa to enter and stay in Brazil up to 90 days.

Citizens from all other countries do need a tourist visa to enter in Brazil. This includes, among others: USA, China, Japan, Russia, Slovak Rep., Czech Rep., Hungary, Canada and several more. The tourist visa provides coverage for attending scientific conferences, seminars, or meetings. Note that tourist visa holders are not allowed to engage in any paid activity in Brazil, but they can get per-diem allowances.

In order to request a tourist visa, it is necessary to contact the nearest Brazilian Consulate. A full list in the Brazilian Consultaes can be found in the IAUS229-ACM2205 homepage.

AMERICAN CITIZENS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT IT MIGHT TAKE MORE THAN ONE MONTH TO GET THE VISA IN THEIR CASE. For other citizens, it should usually take a couple of weeks or less. Please check this with the nearest Consulate as soon as possible. The LOC will not be responsible for any problems concerning delay of the visa expedition.

The IAUS229-ACM2005 LOC will provide a letter of invitation for those participants who request so and provide the following information:

- full name.
- passport number and country of expedition.
- full mailing address and a fax number to send the letter.
- names and passport numbers of accompanying persons, if any.


PROCEEDINGS:

The proceedings volume of the IAUS229-ACM2005 will be published by Cambridge University Press within six months after the meeting. The cost of the volume is included in the registration fee. More information will soon be available in the web page of the meeting.
